Osteomyelitis

Infection of bone

Systemic fever, chills, bone pain

(Look for Sickle Cell patient with causative agent Salmonella)

(Look for the puncture wound on a tennis shoe, causative agent = Pseudomonas)

Tx: ABX with possible debridement

Septic Arthritis

Infection of joint

MCC = Staph Aureus

Swollen ,warm, erythematous joint with decreased ROM secondary to pain and swelling

Dx: Arthrocentesis

Tx: ABX and joint wash out
