Pericarditis

  • MC = Viral pathology (Coxsackie & Echovirus)
  • Persistent pleuritic chest pain
  • Worse when lying flat
    • Gravity is compressing the pericardium causing pain
  • Alleviated with sitting up / leaning forward
  • **PERICARDIAL FRICTION RUB**
  • ECG = Shortened PR Interval and Widespread ST Elevation
  • Tx: NSAIDS, Colchicine, Corticosteroids
