Ductal vs Lobular

Painless, FIXED, breast mass felt on physical exam

***MC in Upper Outer Quadrant***

Tx: Depends on stage and if hormone receptor positive or negative

Fibroadenoma

BENIGN

Small, mobile, nontender mass felt in the breast

Fibrocystic changes

MC breast disorder

Cysts in the breast that INCREASE IN SIZE AND BECOME PAINFUL DURING MENSTRUATION

Gynecomastia

BENIGN enlargement of the breasts secondary to increased estrogen

Look for the the early pubescent boy with bilateral breast enlargement

Usually self limiting but if other symptoms are present imaging and labs may be warranted 

Mastitis

Inflammation of the breast (usually due to nipple trauma from newborn)

Staph Aureus MC

Tx: Warm compresses + ABX (Questions love Dicloxacillin)

MOTHER CAN CONTINUE TO BREAST FEED
